Heroic neighbors save the day
A Lima, Ohio family is grateful for their quick-thinking neighbors after their cat survived a house fire on Monday.
The fire started in the kitchen of the family's home on the 900 block of W. Wayne St. The family was able to escape the home safely, but their cat, Mittens, was still inside.
Neighbors saw the smoke and flames and called 911. They then ran into the house to try and save Mittens.
Mittens the cat is safe and sound
The neighbors were able to find Mittens and bring her outside to safety. The cat was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The family is grateful to the neighbors for saving their beloved pet.
“We are so grateful to our neighbors for saving Mittens,” said the family's matriarch. “She is part of our family and we are so happy to have her back.”
Firefighters arrived on the scene and were able to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The family has been displaced from their home due to the fire. They are currently staying with family and friends.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.
The Lima Fire Department reminds residents to have a fire escape plan in place and to practice it regularly.
